(more...)In January this year I went along to a past pupil’s night at Grosvenor High School, an alma mater of mine, in Cameronian Drive, Belfast. The old school buildings were being pulled down and new buildings erected on a site in Marina Park just behind them. Yesterday we were all invited to go back to skool again and take a look around those brand new buildings.
(more...)From 1984-1991 I had the good fortune to attend Grosvenor High School in Cameronian Drive, East Belfast. The 1950′s buildings are now being replaced by a new school, and as a special farewell gift to past pupils (and staff) it was was opened for an afternoon to allow us to wander around and remember our school days.

(more...)PRONI, the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland, have launched a searchable archive of Belfast Street Directories dating back as far as 1819.
Street Directories are books containing a listing of the names, addresses and occupations of the inhabitants of Belfast as well as lists of commercial establishments operating in the city, and so are a vital resource for historical and genealogical researchers. Having them easily searchable online is a big step forward.
(more...)We recently spent a Saturday afternoon with the Belfast Taste & Music Fest in Botanic Gardens. This event allows visitors to sample dishes from some of the best Northern Ireland restaurants as well as from visiting chefs from Chicago. Music, cookery demonstrations and an always-present beer tent round off the entertainment.

(more...)The Coca-Cola Company, worldwide purveyor of refreshing cola based beverages, are running an interesting marketing campaign at the moment that’s a little bit different to the usual and has something for the retrogamer. They’ve commissioned German artists eBoy to produce posters of a number of Irish cites in their “Pixorama” style, highly reminiscent of the isometric arcade adventures of old such as Head Over Heels and Get Dexter!
(more...)I had a bit of spare time in Belfast city centre recently, and, lacking anything better to do, took the chance to grab a coffee (and a tasty snack, I have to admit) and sit awhile in the grounds of the City Hall. As I kicked back and watched the world go by, it struck me what a great resource the little green haven I was sitting in is to both the people of Belfast and to visitors to the city.
