javacpc 6.4 released

, June 25th, 2009

Markus has released an updated version of the open source Amstrad CPC emulator package, JavaCPC. JavaCPC powers the Amstrad CPC Online Arcade at one of my other websites, girv dot net.

Version 6.4 of JavaCPC brings the following changes:

  • Improved tape emulation: WAV, CDT and MP3 input supported
  • Improved CRTC emulation: Camembert 4, Backtro and other demos now work better
  • Improved Z80 emulation: Speedlock and similar protections now work
  • Improved FDC emulation: “Prehistorik II” and “Super
    Cauldron
    ” now work
  • Improved sound synchronisation
  • Added keyboard recording feature
  • Added bug report form
  • Added support for GZip compressed WAV, DSK, SNA
  • Improved version checking
  • The usual collection of bugfixes

For this released I contributed updated CDT/TZX decoding routines that are better structured, should be faster and use less memory.

The CRTC improvements allow much improved emulation of two very challenging demos under JavaCPC. Camembert 4 by Ramlaid features vertical screen-splitting, while Backtro by Overflow demonstrates some impressive tunnel effects.
