christmas card of the year 2009

, January 6th, 2010

Yes folks, it’s that time of year again. Time for the second annual (I can call it “annual” now that I’ve done a second one) Wee Doors Banging Christmas Card Of The Year awards. Cue crowd sample. Cue dancing girls.

What, no dancing girls? Ah well, I’ll just get on with the awards then.

Best Christmas Card 2009 : 3rd Place

Third place this year goes to this card from my old friend Dave and his family. It manages to be fun without crossing over into cringeworthy “wacky” or “zany” and contains just the right amount of Christmassy tack. Good choice, folks.

Best Christmas Card 2009 : 2nd Place

I’m a fan of clean and modern design, and this second placed entry from my brother and his wife is a fine example of both. If I’m honest, I’m not so keen on the deliberately non-offensive “Season’s Greetings” message and I do wonder what penguins have to do with Christmas, but taking the card as a whole it still comes in ahead of all but one of its rivals.

Best Christmas Card 2009 : Winner!

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner. 2009′s champion is another example of clean, understated design, this time from last year’s runners up, the Drs. Allen. I’m told the message is in Thai (there are reasons) but I’ve no idea what it actually says and can only assume it’s something seasonal and greetingish. I do hope it’s not rude. I like the white space and winter colours, and the simple-looking, if incomprehensible, message text balances the Christmassy trees nicely. It’s also a charity card, so that’s nice too, and like last year’s winner it’s a card that I could have bought myself. Congratulations!
