christmas card of the year 2008

, January 12th, 2009

Inspired by Destroy All Onions’ own “Christmas Card of the Year“, I have now analysed, cogitated, deliberated and digested upon my own haul of festive greetings slips and come up with my top 3 cards of the year, 2008. In traditional fashion, the results will now be announced in reverse order.

Apologies in advance for the poor photography. I would have scanned the cards, but the scanner decided (probably wisely) it wanted no part of these proceedings. Anyway, to business.

Best Christmas Card 2008 : 3rd Place

I liked this effort, from my old school chum and Best Man Dougs, for its comedy and cartoon charm. Dougs usually comes through with an interesting and slightly left-field choice of card (for all occasions) and he hasn’t disappointed here. Well done, Dougs, and maybe 2009 will be the year I get over to see your new house at last.

Best Christmas Card 2008 : 2nd Place

Yes, alright, it has cute and fluffy animals on it and they’re wearing Santa hats, so you’d think that this card should really have self-incinerated out of it’s own pure shame. But I’m glad it didn’t. The Westies (that’s the dogs) aren’t overly cute (which is a good trick for puppies) and the glitter on the bands of their hats is a nice touch. Drs. Allen & Cundick, congratulations on second place. Or “best losers” if you prefer.

Best Christmas Card 2008 : Winner!

And the winner is … this understated little number from one of my wife’s friends. The design’s simplicity and equally simple and not-in-any-way-schmaltzy message won the day. Of the three contenders, this is the card I would have bought myself and so it really had to be the winner.

Well done all, and I look forward to your entries for 2009′s competition!
