amiga revival fair 2009

The Amiga Revival Fair 2009 was held on Saturday 12th December 2009 in Enfield. Organised by the Amiga North Thames user group, it featured a number of Amiga hardware and software exhibitors as well as demonstrations of new products (yes there are a few!) and games competitions.

Since I hadn’t been to an Amiga show since World Of Commodore in 1998 I had hoped to be able to travel to this one, but unfortunately I found myself otherwise engaged that weekend and unable to attend. DDNI, a fellow Northern Ireland based Amiga user, did make it however, and this is what he found (edited slightly):

Had a lot of fun at the show yesterday and then a lot of beers last night!

Met some great people and got to play with OS4.1 for the first time. It was very impressive and far more responsive than I had expected. The os4.1 Update 1 was also on display in a 99.999% state and Rigo made a good job of talking through the new features.

The Hyperion MAP was dicussed, the vibes are very positive, but its all still very hush hush.

At its peak, I counted about 50 people in the hall, with others drifting in throughout.

Nicholas brought his Amiga Walker, what a weird looking beast! Sadly, it decided to stay broken for the duration.

The gaming competition was good fun, even though Dan from Finland cheated me at Stunt Car Racer, by making me use the Quickshot JELLY joystick whilst he got the Precision Pad!

The after show beers and food were very welcome.

After the pub, myself, Rigo, Wepl, nujack, Dan and his mate carried on drinking in the hotel bar. It wasnt long before we decided that “Bier und Amiga Spielen” was called for. The Amiga in a suitcase got setup and the games began. The staff were a little confused as to what was going on!

One important thing to note was that Wepl is crap at Lotus II ;-)

It sounds like I missed a good show. I’m particularly disappointed that I didn’t get to meet Wepl, the WHDLoad author, in person as we’ve swapped many an email over the years and I think I would have enjoyed swapping a few beers for a change.

A number of attendees took some photos. For your convenience, I’ve gathered them together into one Amiga Revival Fair 2009 album. Some video footage has also been released and I’ve linked all the available clips together in one Amiga Revival Fair 2009 playlist. If you know of any more, get in touch.

I remember the thrill of connecting up 2 Amigas with a serial cable and having a 2 player game of Stunt Car Racer.. Those were the days (I know I am getting really old now…)
